Race and Representation Forum
AAPA is sponsoring a forum
on race and representation, which will take place
Thursday, April 12 from 6-8 pm in Broadway III.
The forum will discuss the state of diversity in science
and physical anthropology, and address ways to involve
underrepresented students. For more information, contact
Tamar Carter at tamarec (at) ufl (dot) edu.
Ethics Forum
Please join organizers
Graciela Cabana, Alexandra Obregon, Claudia Valeggia, and
Jennifer Wagner for a forum on ethics in biological
anthropology. The forum is an opportunity to share stories
with colleagues and students about ethical challenges we
face in anthropological research, as well as to discuss
resources available when searching for ethical guidance.
The forum will take place on Thursday, April 12 from 6-8
pm in Broadway I. See the flyer below for additional
details.
Please keep in mind the last
important upcoming deadline:

American Association of
Anatomists Anthropological Anatomy Award
The anatomical sciences
and biological anthropology have a deeply entwined
history, and new methodological and theoretical advances
in both fields ensure an exciting future. To recognize and
encourage the incorporation of the anatomical sciences
into cutting edge biological anthropology research, the
American Association of Anatomists has provided funding
for student awards at the American Association of Physical
Anthropologists annual meeting in Portland. Two students
will be awarded $250 each, for the poster and podium
presentations that are judged to best implement either
traditional or state-of-the-art anatomical methodologies
in innovative anthropological research. Presentations will
be judged on novelty of the research question and design,
use of anatomical methodologies, and presentation style.
To apply, please email
your AAPA abstract Dr. Alison Doubleday, adouble (at) uic
(dot) edu, no later than March 12, 2012. Indicate whether
this is a poster or podium presentation and the DATE and
TIME of the presentation. The winner will be announced at
the Student Prize Reception on Saturday, April 14,
6-7:30pm, so please attend!
(P.S. Want to learn about a career as a
biological anthropologist in the anatomical sciences?
Please attend the Anatomy Career Roundtable on Saturday
at 2 pm in the Studio Suite!)
